The Lower School at Tuscaloosa Academy consists of Preschool, beginning at age three through the fourth grade. Our Lower School teachers embrace a philosophy that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is our desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. We will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks.
The daily schedule not only includes reading, math, science, social studies, but also, enrichment classes such as; Foreign Language, PE, Art, Technology, Music, and Library. We go on a number of field trips during the year to enhance our curriculum and allow students to learn and grow through hands-on activities, theater experiences, and develop relationships with other students. Character development is taught in the classroom, on the field, and in special Knightlife classes. In the Lower School, our students have several leadership opportunities in our Student Council Association as class representatives and officers, as school greeters, and as hosts to prospective and new students. They also have many public speaking opportunities from being preschoolers on stage in a performance to standing before classmates giving speeches during SCA elections.
By giving them all of these opportunities, we want our students to become independent, be creative problem solvers, and have the skills they need to be the leaders our world needs in the future.
