The Tuscaloosa Academy Theatre Department offers multiple opportunities for students to engage in the performing arts as actors, technicians, and audience members.
Students in grades 7-12 have multiple opportunities to take Theatre courses that center around performance and design, as well as communication skill development.
The TA Players are those students in grades 5-12 who participate in our annual Fall Play - a full-scale theatrical production performed for an audience. Recent productions include The Wizard of Oz (RSC), Peter Pan, Our Town, and A Midsummer Nights Dream.
Students in the upper school are also eligible to participate in our competition team. This group of talented students represent Tuscaloosa Academy at AISA and Alabama Conference of Theatre events, including the Walter Trumbauer Theatre Festival and the AISA Drama Competition. Each year, our students bring home various awards and recognition, including college scholarships and state-wide honors, competing against students in public and private institutions throughout our state.
Tuscaloosa Academy is also home to Troupe 8232 of the International Thespian Society (theatre honorary).
The Performing Arts Department is lead by Mrs. Sara-Margaret Cates. She is a 10+ year teaching veteran and professional actor, director, and playwright who was recently given the Druid Arts Award for Theatre Educator by the Arts Council of West Alabama.
